More than 809,000 active folks the nation’s Health insurance coverage Scheme (NHIS) from the Volta Region have opted in for primary health care providers by June this holiday season.

Mr Elliot Akototse, Regional Manager from the National Health insurance coverage Authority (NHIA) said the subscription represented 96.87 per cent of total enrolment and marked the total implementation within the capitation payment system in the market.

Addressing a mid-year post on the Authority in Ho, Mr Akototse said the Authority is now selecting Preferred Primary-care Provider (PPP) and confirming bank information on respective health care providers for onward disbursement of funds.

PPP could be the healthcare facility a subscriber chooses for medical attention. The unit enables referrals to higher level healthcare facilities at the appropriate time.

Mr Akototse said the vicinity is widely covered in NHIS biometric registration nevertheless has challenges reaching remote villages.

The NHIA extended Capitation provider payment system on the Volta, Upper East and Upper West regions after piloting it successfully in the Ashanti Region.
