Mr Perry Nelson, the Director of Management Information System on the National Medical health insurance Authority on Monday said the actual identification cards of your National Health Insurance Scheme are valid and acceptable in accessing health care.
He therefore attracted folks the scheme not to rush to uncover the new biometric cards, when they needs the earlier cards gain access to health-related in anyway its repair shops before cards are due for renewal.
Speaking on a media briefing around the biometric membership system in the Scheme in Sunyani, Mr Nelson explained that this Authority initiated a policy of replacing the previous cards together with the new biometric identification cards but added which it would take about Yr to phase out the old cards.
He said the Authority had issued in excess of 5 million from the biometric cards to persons in the Scheme in Ashanti, Upper East, Upper West, Volta, Greater Accra, Eastern and Central Regions.
Mr Nelson added that, the remainder of the Regions could well be captured by the end of the final quarter of 2015 and asked members to remain patient.
He stated it wasn’t true that the scheme was collapsing, mentioning that though there were some general challenges in the sustainability, the Authority had changed over measures in addressing such challenges.
Mr Nelson explained that the introduction of the biometric cards would have been to address challenges with duplications of enrolment to make sure that data integrity on the Scheme’s membership system.
It would also allow NHIA to biometrically authenticate subscribers at health provider sites to discourage multiple claims submissions, he added.
Mr Nelson advised Ghanaians who we had not still registered while using the Scheme to do so to find free health care delivery.
